Apply to become an au pair in China
It only takes a few minutes. Our Shanghai team will reply within two business days.
Tips for a great video
Your one-minute video is the first time host families meet you, so let your personality shine.
- Film in a quiet, bright place, facing a window, with your phone held horizontally.
- Say who you are, where you're from and why you want to come to China.
- Talk about your experience with children and what you enjoy doing with them.
- Mention a hobby or skill you could share: music, sport, art, cooking.
- Speak naturally and smile. No script needed, and it doesn't have to be perfect.
Tips for your resume
One page is plenty. Make it easy for host families to picture you with their children.
- List all your experience with children, including babysitting and volunteering.
- Add the languages you speak and your level in each.
- Include your studies, plus any first aid or coaching courses.
- Add a friendly photo of yourself.
- Say when you would like to start and how long you want to stay.
What host families look for
Every family is different, but most hope for the same things: an au pair who is warm, reliable and patient with children, curious about Chinese life and happy to share their own culture. Experience matters, but so does personality. A cheerful video where you talk about the children you have looked after, and why you want to learn Mandarin, often says more than a long resume. We read every application ourselves and help you show your best side to the right families.
Before you hit send
Check that you meet the requirements: ages 18 to 26, conversational English and some experience with children. Have a look at how the program works and the student visa you will need, so you know what comes next. Still unsure about anything? Message us first on WhatsApp or WeChat. There are no silly questions, and asking doesn't commit you to anything. We look forward to meeting you!
